Aside from all her ditzy moments on her reality show, Jessica Simpson has made another, more dominant name for herself. From her shoe, jewelry and fragrance line to her handbag, outerwear and lingerie line, and everything in between, Simpson has 19 licensing partnerships under her belt.
Simpson and the Camuto Group, which holds the license for the entire Simpson brand, have just signed a long-term deal with Jones Apparel Group Inc. to design, develop, produce and distribute a full jeanswear line under the actress/singer’s name.
Even though they are the most comfortable things in the world, Simpson’s shoes always have a unique detail to them and her handbags almost always catch my eyes. I have confidence that Simpson will continue to deliver without any failures, unlike another singer/actress we know-cough-LINDSAYLOHAN-cough.
The Simpson brand already brings in about $500 million and with this apparel line, that amount will only sky rocket, says Vince Camuto, chief executive officer at Camuto.
Simpson’s apparel line includes denim jeans, knit tops, jackets and skirts, and will be seen in about 1,000 department stores like Macy’s, Bon-Ton, Belk and Dillard’s come July.
Camuto explains why he thought Jones Apparel Group Inc. was the right pick:
“This license has been one of the toughest, but also one of the most important for our brand. It’s really all about finding the right partners and developing strategic partnerships,” he said. “When meeting with potential partners, and I met with a lot of them for this, I was overwhelmed with the expertise and passion at Jones. I see a lot more that we can do together.”
Jack Gross, group CEO of the jeanswear division for Jones reaction of Jessica Simpson:
“She has a very strong point of view and would be in here working long hours on this, sometimes up to 12 hours or so. I have to say, I didn’t really expect to see that,” he said.
Simpson says she had to be well involved because the line had to reflect what she wore on a daily bases.
“Because I live in denim, the fit was the most important,” she said. “A girl’s booty needs to look good. I was inspired to create a great denim line that complements the entire Jessica Simpson lifestyle brand — a jean that becomes a girl’s best friend, that everyday go-to pair.”
There are boot-cut, flare, skinny, straight, legging and jegging styles, which are all available in different denim fabrics and washes — from the basic dark to a lightly washed and destructed.
For the knit tops, there is a variety to choose from. There are any of the asymmetrical tanks with the subtle lace ruffle accents or the oversize knit cardigans and fake fur vests.
The jacket styles range from cropped Buffalo plaid jacket and boyfriend blazer to a denim motorcycle fashion.
Items of the Jessica Simpson collection will range between $9 for a tank top, to about $27 for a jacket or a chunky knit sweater.
