Will “Jersey Shore” Find its Way to Fashion Week?

February 3, 2010 • New York Fashion Week Fall '10

Will they be in the front rows of Fashion Week?

Well, it was only a matter of time before those big-mouthed, big-haired twentysomethings we all love to hate (or hate to love) would be infiltrating the high fashion world. Ironically, the Jersey Shore kids have risen to fame through the notoriety of their cheap, tacky stylings. But now that they've catapulted to the top of everyone's buzz list, they may be signing themselves over to a classier crowd. According to the New York Post, fashion insiders in and around New York are dropping more and more rumors about the cast of Jersey Shore showing up for the shows. One of their managers, Michael Schweiger, even claims that the designers have been personally reaching out to them and giving out invitations! So what can we possibly expect? Will The Situation bring his medallion collection? Will Snookie make her hair pouf extra high? Will DJ Pauly D bring a bodyguard to protect his CZ earrings? It's all just too much in a so bad it's good kind of way.

Schweiger also claimed that Jenni "Jwoww" Farley and Sammi "Sweethear" Giancola have been reportedly tapped to even model in some of the Bryant Park shows. As if the inclusion of several "Real Housewives" last season wasn't enough to have fashion media worried for the fate of fashion week, now they'll have the Jersey Shore cast front row center, and maybe even on the stage! Though we'd take them over the "Housewives" any day. Celebrity stylist Mary Alice Stephenson thinks the potential ordeal is nothing to fret over and will not reflect poorly on Fashion Week's reputation. "Every level of pop culture has come to Fashion Week," she reminds us, while Allure's editor-in-chief Linda Wells invites the cast to bring it on. "They should dress exactly the way they always do and not change a hair
or hair gel or tone down the tan. They're perfect as is." Whether "perfect" is the fist word we would use to describe them, we have to admit it would make for some pretty interesting people watching, signature style or not. Looks like we'll just have to wait and see what kind of "vibe" unfolds inside the tents!
