Summary: Still reeling from news of the death of Alexander McQueen, the Ports 1961 show asked for a moment of silence before the show would commence. You could have heard a pin drop. Since this was my first official show of Fashion Week this was the perfect show to get me back in the mood for fashion! The tension between nature and technology was the theme of designer Tia Cibani's Fall collection. Focusing on this dichotomy, the collection was both a salute to classic style as well as a nod to the futuristic. With one foot straddled on each side we saw metallic and nude Wellies, a belted tweed coat with rubberized metallic detailing, high wasted wool trouser with a neoprine blouse and a knit and leather dress. Sadly it seems the jumpsuit is back for another season as well as the dreaded pleated pant. The wild hair and pale peach lips and muted makeup palette was stunning. So all-in-all, when you successfully mix Victorian techniques with current clean silhouettes you make a collection that speaks to my personal preferences. Would I wear most of this collection? You betcha (less the leather sheath and a few other pieces). Thankfully, the show was like theater liquid smoke and all. Fashion Week has begun.
