Summary: Designer Adam Lippes has often credited his source of inspiration for a collection to a particular work of art that stood out to him. His fall '10 collection was no exception, with Lippes pointing out that he had been moved by Isca Greenfield-Sanders' painting, "Against The Fall," in which a parachute jumper descends into an infinite darkness. He mentions the artist's "experimentation with color, texture, lightness and line" as factors in laying the groundwork for his fall line. True to that notion, ADAM's Fall '10 runway was a comprehensive study in light, texture, and movement.
Lippes' usual love of color was toned down for this collection, but in a way that was only subdued—not boring. He provided a rich fall palette of caramels, putty, and forest green-working in a signature burst of crimson here and there—for an organic, earthy tone. In lieu of various brought color, a splendid array of embellishments was worked in, luxe, metallic embroidery in sparkling swirl and kaleidoscope patterns. Texture seemed to be a key focus as the fabrics harmoniously contrasted against each other—wool with leather trim, cashmere and embellished flannel, silk charmeuse with structured organza. Each piece seemed to become its own canvas, with the rich dimension of the metals and the fluid movement of the fabrics breathing life into ADAM's artful garments. Adam Lippes keeps evolving with age and experience, and every season we look forward to his shows.
