Summary: Rebecca Taylor's Fall'10 collection was an amalgam of airiness and structure. From my time backstage, I learned that the look was inspired by the urban styles of both downtown New York and Paris. A woman radiating a tousled, natural chic which may not be completely polished, (from her endless nights of partying), but still pulled together in a I-just-threw-this-on kind of way. To enhance that image, Taylor chose to layer on her pieces, pairing ruffled minidresses with tights, pullovers and jackets. Some of the girls donned floppy hats, seemingly stolen from boyfriends' closets in a last minute dash. The creativity in the collection could be seen in how dressier pieces, many in chiffon or with feathers and sparkle, were put with others more simple and casual, therefore allowing the typical eveningwear to become more versatile. The other element that provided a sort of elegance was the color palette, staying crisp and cool in slate, rose, nutmeg, and the commonly used grande fleur print. Overall, Taylor was able to toe the line between between refinement and the raw, edgier aspects of living a downtown life.
