Summary: Luckily, what went on forever at Donna Karan's "Forever Black" Fall '10 RTW Collection was a series of black coats. I always say, you can't be too rich, too thin, or have too many black coats. Especially if you live in the city. Your coat is all anyone may ever see you in, and why not make it a luxurious Donna Karan coat? I was in coat heaven, as one came down the runway after the next – cocoon shaped, wrapped, belted, shiny leathers, shearlings and loomed knits. The basic length was just right, just above the knee, many were cocoon shaped, somewhat fitted in the shoulders yet full and sculptural at the hem making them easy to move in. Just beautifu
l! There were also a lot of added on collars that tied in the back with yards of shiny streamers as well as huge, tall sculptured ruffles on collars, shrugs and halters. This was not boring black but black on black, texture on texture  and matte on shine. The pants were slim but had large, open zippered slits at the openings that flared over high heels, creating a balanced silhouette that works better for most women than pants tightly pegged at the ankles. And there were shots of intense gem colors like magenta, electric blue and petrol (a teal), all handled in the same manner as black, as solids with textures, shine and sculpture. For evening, it was like watching artwork coming down the runway when it came to the last several pieces! The most amazing modern sculpture was a strapless asymmetrical black textured wool double organza evening gown. Stunning!
