Summary: It was a cold blustery day in NYC Tuesday. The perfect day for a Dennis Basso show to be sure! The fur was bound to fly and luckily there were no PETA protesters outside the tents as expected (I joked they were probably freezing). The weather may have kept some away, but it provided me with an opportunity for a front row view (I was asked to sit  there, I did not sneak, ahem). And what a view it was! Basso's inspiration was the sculpture of the Venus de Milo. The woman who wears this collection he sees as strong, statuesque and elegant. The predictable procession of beautiful, in-your-face furs consisting of chinchilla, fox, alligator and feathers warmed my heart. I was giddy. How Basso manages to make fur look light is beyond me (actually it's a unique
mesh-netting technique his team has perfected).

The new must-have accessories for Fall '10 are perfect for those who can't afford a full length Dennis Basso coat. I covet the natural raccoon and alligator "pockets" which were basically fur-lined hand warmers attached to
the ends of an alligator belt that cross-crossed over the back and can be worn over anything. Another option? A gunmetal fox and alligator sleeve. You are only supposed to wear one (see the last picture above). With a strapless gown, you can't go wrong.

Besides the fur, there were a few drool worthy evening gowns. One with alligator cap sleeves that was stunning and another black silk tulle dress that made me swoon. Additionally, I will be on the hunt for the Ruthie Davis metal spiked stilettos the models teetered upon. I didn't want the show to end.

Color Palette: camel, khaki, deep aubergine, forest green, evergreen, smoky topaz, brown, charcoal, black

Fabrics & Textures: chiffon, charmeuse, silk tulle, wool knit, liquid wool, cashmere, lace, embroidered lace, alligator, fox, chinchilla, sable, broadtail, Finnish raccoon, combinations of fur, feathers,

Key Looks: Hand painted black and velvet chinchilla coat; Natural Russian Barguzine sable vest with a belted back; khaki silk charmeuse gown with alligator cap sleeves; evergreen fox and feather coat; natural raccoon and alligator pockets; black silk tulle dress; black embroidered lace gown with one gunmetal fox and alligator sleeve; and Ruthie Davis metal spiked stilettos
