Summary: Inspired by the gritty and artful portraits of photographer Peter Beard, the Tibi fall'10 collection was a study of contrasting themes, a clear one being the pairing of masculine and feminine. Tibi dappled in more menswear shapes this season, pairing military-inspired coats and tailored trousers with their signature celebration of all things "girl" like sweatheart-shaped bustiers and belted minidresses. Draping was also apparent, having quickly become one of the most commonly used devices for fall. The draping at Tibi, however, was much more relaxed than the stiffer styles of other houses, and provided a soft complement to the boxy shapes and defined shoulders that were apparent throughout the collection. My favorite part was, of course, the rich palette of color and print, though it seemed more toned down than in the past. This wasn't a bad thing—if anything, it provided a sense of maturity to a house that's known for it's zesty and youthful vibe. The menswear-inspired pieces also added a sense of refinement, as did the wealth of jewel-toned, long-sleeved gowns. Overall, Tibi was able to achieve a balance between sophistication and lively, completely wearable fun.
