4 Chic Celebrity Looks At New York Fashion Week

During New York Fashion Week, we saw tons of celebs in the front row, posing for pictures and mingling with their favorite designers (and each other!) While everyone was trying to make a statement in some way, only a few truly stood out for not only wearing perfectly put together outfits, but by setting an ultra-cool, of-the-moment trend at the same time! Here are the four celebrities that truly caught our eye and how you can recreate their look at home.

Rachel Zoe: Prepster at Donna Karan

Although she’s a stylist to the stars, we’re not a huge fan of Rachel Zoe’s style because all she seems to do is take up-to-the minute trends, in the form of various pieces, and put them on her body. This includes a black and white zebra print shirt (QVC Party to Kick Off Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week), fitted black blazer and satin shorts (Proenza Schouler) and lots of fur at Rodarte.

But when we saw her in this preppy, menswearish combination with movie star shades at the Donna Karan show, we had to take a second look. The white tunic is fitted and fabulous, the cropped tweed jacket, slightly fringy but fitted and the suede, camel colored thigh-high boots are like nothing we’ve ever seen (not the typical leather black ones we’ll typically see on Penelope Cruz and everyone else.)

Take the current preppy trend and make it your own using boxy cuts, khakis and herringbone tweed. We found this Helene Berman Boxy Tweed Pearl Button Jacket on sale at ASOS and it’s only $86!

Kelly Osbourne: Nautical Glam at G-Star Raw

If you didn’t see the petite Kelly Osbourne at almost every show, you were truly living under a rock. We love that she can easily change up her style going from punker rock chic in tight leather (L.A.M.B.) to elegant, ladylike silk (Michel Angel). But my personal favorite had to be the put-together nautical look she took to G-Star raw, pairing a white-piped navy-blue coat and dark blue shorts with black tights and the most delicate pair of romantic white gloves we’ve ever seen!

Kelly’s nautical glam can mean everything from navy blue sailor pants to a blue and white striped top for casual chic. But to add an extra-oomph to any nautical trend (the way Kelly did) try pairing the entire ensemble with short white gloves that end at the wrist. You’ll truly be a trendsetter with these White Shortie Gloves for $20 from Greatglovesonline.com.

Nicole Richie: Mismatched Boho Chic at Proenza Schouler

We all know Nicole Richie’s style is bohemian chic and she never proves otherwise, very rarely being seen in even a dress that doesn’t have some element of hippie chic cool. She didn’t deny this, even at New York Fashion Week where other celebs chose to wear satin mini dresses and over-the-top prints. Whether it’s for her own Winter Kate line showcased at Bloomingdale’s (she wore denim shorts, a white button down and black crocheted vest), or for her moment at Proenza Schouler in a colorful dress full of color blocked purple, blue and black stripes offset by a gray pattern scarf, her prints seem to offer the ultimate air of mismatched cool, and totally plays on the trend that’s currently being seen at places like Shopbop.

This trend is a bit hard to do and really for the fashion risktaker, it’s really hard to put unmatched pieces together without looking like you’re off your rocker. Lucky for us, Shopbop lists this style on their Spring Trend Report for 2010 and gives us the best combinations from their collection. I love this red patterned Rebecca Taylor top with blue and white polka-dot Rebecca Taylor shorts and I can totally see it going on Nicole!

Shenae Grimes: Two Tone Glitz at Diane von Furstenberg

We’re not sure what to make of 90210’s Shenae Grimes. She’s only 20-years old and often rocks bold patterned neon colors like the ultimate hipster kid, but when she tries to go for dressy, it somehow turns out wrong. We’re glad she stuck to a black blazer, brown belt combo at Rebecca Taylor and black fur coat Charlotte Ronson. Then she showed up at the front row of Diane von Furstenberg in overly-emphasized makeup and a two-tone print dress with a sheen and we all let out a collective gasp. We weren’t sure what to make out of this slightly older party dress look, but I liked it and I definitely liked the dress’s pretty, but bold pattern coated in shine and it’s two-tone quality.

This makes me wonder if we have another interesting trend in our midst — a mixture of print and solids in the same dress (a la Shenae) or using a mix-and-match of two tones in the same fabric and print. No worries, Shopbop is already on top of it. In the same Spring Trend Report, they showcase this ultra-cool Gryphon tank and miniskirt in the same pattern in two different, bold colors.
