What To Buy Now To Be A Style-Maker In The Fall
Another New York Fall Fashion Week has come and gone. It was the
last at the Bryant Park tents, brought shock and sadness with the news
of Alexander McQueen’s death, yet still managed to inspire and
re-energize the fashion community. The good news is that there’s something for everyone – from preppy to boho, minimal to embellished or sharp suiting to ladylike, you’ll find something new you love.
If you’re like me, you probably find it hard to think about fall when it’s not even spring yet. I’ll help you pare down the best of the shows and understand what to buy now that will bring you through the seasons of 2010.
It’s no surprise to see designers exploring a gray palette for fall, but this year we saw it give way to other rich neutrals like beige tones and camel colors. This was executed best in short dresses with sculpted folds a la Lela Rose and Halston. If you’re looking for more color, there were plenty of pops of red (Monique Lhuillier), blue (Carolina Herrera) and mustard yellow with violet (Chris Benz), but my favorite hue was an intense orange shown by Erin Fetherston and Narciso Rodriguez. Tip: The nudes you’ll see in store for spring will transition seamlessly into fall.
