It’s no surprise when Lady Gaga steps out of her limo for a red carpet event, jaws drop to the floor. First, we see one leg peek out, covered in lace and we figure its leggings, but then she breaks out with a full body suit that is either fantastically bedazzled or has some type of structure extending off her shoulders. It’s always a mystery! I’ve always wondered how much more dramatic she would be on stage at her concert.
Armani and Prada are the two fashion houses that designed her costumes for her Monster Ball tour, which began last week in Manchester.
As I look at these costumes, I don’t think they’re that extreme. I’m a little disappointed with the low creativity level compared to what she’s shown us in the past.
Giorgio Armani devised four different looks: two sparkled bodysuits, a glistening mini-dress and a floor-length black patent trench coat. Armani also supplied custom designed shoes and sunglasses to go with each look. Prada designed an 18th Century-inspired hoop dress made of camel-colored ciré, which is a shiny plastic jersey blend.
I guess Gaga plans to stick to the shimmering bodysuits, but hopefully she’ll get a little more whacky on stage as she does on the red carpet! As much as people cringe, it’s fun to watch!
