Celebrity Style Smackdown. Who Wore It Best?

March 1, 2010 • Celebrity Style

Blake Lively vs. Selena Gomez in Smythe

The Winner: Selena Gomez scores major points with her relaxed but pulled together pairing of the Smythe boyfriend blazer with dark wash jeans and boots. She looks polished, effortless and ready for any number of activities. Blake looks way too stiff and uncomfortable in her attempts to dress the blazer up with a wide belt, heels and skintight leggings that she appears to be poured into.

Christina Ricci vs. Lady GaGa in Marc Jacobs

The Winner: It's hard to judge anyone against Lady GaGa since the pop star's bizarre fashion choices are often too out of this world to consider, but Christina Ricci needs to be noted due to her extreme glam factor that just knocks GaGa out of the park. Christina is perfectly nymph-like with her dewy skin, wispy bangs, and flirty red pout. She radiates ethereal elegance in the Marc Jacobs gown that seems to be made just for her. GaGa, while toned from her normal three-ring circus, is still a disparate mess.

Taylor Swift vs. Carmen Electra in Rebecca Taylor

The Winner: The decision to award Taylor Swift the winner of this smackdown was made much easier due to the fact that I actually saw Carmen Electra in this outfit at the Rebecca Taylor FW show. Even in person, she seemed to be battling some silent duel with her closet on whether she should dress for the actual upcoming season of spring, or the season being shown the runway, fall. She seemed to reach some sort of stalemate in the end by pairing the heavy suede boots with the springy floral dress, a look that didn't quite come together like she had perhaps planned. Swift, on the other hand, is a picture of seasonal ease with her array of adorable accessories that play up the flirty nature of the frock.

Paris Hilton vs. Stephanie Pratt in Brian Lichtenberg

The Winner: Its always a tough call when asked to judge two people whose style choices I rarely respect. Yet in this case, the lesser of the two evils must be awarded to Paris Hilton. So often a fashion Don't, Hilton pulls herself together nicely for a well-rounded overall look with the Brian Lichtenberg dress. She makes sure not to over accessorize, in order to let the asymmetry and the angles of the dress stand out. Her platform heels elongate her legs tastefully and her modernistic hairstyle is a perfect finishing touch. Pratt, from her pose to her toes, is just all wrong. Her chunky necklace takes away from the focal point of the one shoulder style; her blah, round-toed heels are not at all complementary and her careless posture makes the dress bunch up and appear to not fit well at all.

Beyonce vs. Olga Kurylenka in Elie Saab

The Winner: As a totally opposite style duo from the above pair, this choice was also a tough call but in a completely different way. And after agonizing for quite sometime, I finally had to call it as a tie. Both women exude such elegance and grace in their Elie Saab that I couldn't choose one over another. They each make smart choices in making the dress their own, Beyonce with her platform peep-toes and statement earrings are bold elements of the singer's signature style. Olga's understated vamp is shown through her perfect skin, tousled hair and black, ladylike t-straps. Bravo to them both!
