The new mentor to London's finest in fashion

Having secured his place properly in the ranks of fashion history, John Galliano now plans to pass on the secrets of his success to a new
generation of designers. Galliano's camp has just announced he has been named the new honorary
chairperson of London’s Fashion Fringe program, an initiative that supports
emerging British design talent. The responsibilities of his new role include helping to judge the
next two Fashion Fringe competitions, in 2010 and 2011, taking over
from predecessor Donatella Versace. “I am hoping we find a rebel genius,” he said
in a statement. “Fashion sometimes gets scared and plays it too safe –
but I want to push boundaries.” Of course he does. The French mastermind also approved the scheme’s more intimate
mentoring process. “So many talented designers have been lost or
swallowed up by corporate machines because they didn't know how to
handle the business side. I learned the hard way,”
he said.

Fashion Fringe will hold a party in April to celebrate Galliano’s official
appointment. Applications for the program, which provides the winner
with support and mentoring for their design business worth about
100,000 pounds, or $152,000, began to arrive Sunday, according to WWD. The final three finalists picked will be given the opportunity to show their collections at the Fashion Fringe
event during London Fashion Week in September,
when the winner will be
announced. And with Galliano at the helm, how could it not be the very definition of divine.
