I may have to make up a tee shirt that says "I heart 3.1" referring of course to 3.1 Phillip Lim! I love the clothing line and now the man himself, who we were thrilled to meet at Nordstrom last night. A section of the 3rd floor was transformed into a party! A DJ was planted on a riser in the center of the room, with ongoing 3.1 Phillip Lim runway presentations on a screen over his shoulder. A bar was set up with wine, wonderful champagne with ginger concoctions, and decadent appetizers were passed. Models rotated in wearing drool-worthy designs from his Fall 2010 collection, which were available for pre-order on the spot. A large amount of spring inventory was brought in just for for the event, with several runs of sizes on most items.
Phillip Lim was happily meeting and greeting attendees. I was flustered and when I met him I excitedly told him I was sorry it was not winter, or I would be wearing my Phillip Lim wool coat! He smiled and sweetly said, "That's okay!" Then I went on to rave about the modern easy elegance and details of his pieces, and he humbly thanked me. He was totally up for the event, willing handle people like me, talk to his many fans and was available to give advice if you wanted to try something on!
I fell in love with this dress and ran all over the party with it to show everyone. I was pleasantly surprised the prices of all of the pieces looked reasonable for such a designer. For example, I totally expected this dress to be over two thousand dollars and it was $895.
I ran onto Kim Hiley owner of Tribecca boutique. She had her eye on this buttery soft leather jacket (you had to touch it to believe it). It was only $350! She simply had to get it! Besides, they were offering triple points on your Nordstrom card.
Everyone was also treated to a little flip book with photos of designs from the 3.1 Phillip Lim Fall 2010 Collection. In it he is quoted as saying "For the pure love of getting dressed, these clothes are for the love of clothes, nothing more."
I couldn't agree with him more!
