Think you've been seeing a lot of Liberty of London lately? You have… and probably continue to. With their recent collaborations with Nike, Target, MAC Cosmetics and even Manolo Blahnik, the brand has been seen everywhere. And the payoff is great.
In 2008, the brand lost a whopping $5.2 million(!) while in 2009, they actually earned around $150,000, according to the store's annual report. Sales increased up 20%, about $80 million.
The company also noted that the Liberty fabric business partly because of a surge in revenue from its Japanese fabric business. And the Liberty prints increased by 23%, $29 million.
Liberty had a tough time with the recession. After closing a flagship store dedicated solely to Liberty-printed items in London after less than a year, the brand's creative director Tamara Salman quit.
