Jean Paul Gaultier for Hermes and Marni Spring-Summer 2010
Even though the warm kiss of the sun is gradually becoming ever so promising, the breezy spring and summer nights can leave our 10 little piggies feeling like they’re stuck in the arctic. It won’t be hard to stay strong and leave our boots behind because now we have a new spring trend to rely on, socks and stilettos. This isn’t the Adidas stripped sandals-and-socks look, but a more elegant twist to this seemingly forbidden fashion.
Burberry, Christian Dior, Marni and many more have strolled this sporty-meets-chic look down its runways and is predicted to be seen in streets this spring. For so long it’s been a no-no but we must trust our aides and accept that fashion is forever changing its mind!
If you’re going to attempt this look be sure to do it right. Chose a high platform shoe and a loosely fitted, textured sock that hangs somewhere between the calf and ankle. You can also choose a sheer, ankle-high sock.
Try not to get an exact color match, but rather stay in the same color family: cool, warm, or neutral. If you’re doing a pair of full length tights don’t create a harsh contrast like black tights with a pair of red platforms. And most importantly, try to get a heel that covers up. The more sock showing the more unpolished the look becomes.
This may seem awkward at first, but hey let’s face it, fashion is all about stepping out of our comfort zone and trying something a little risky. Can you see yourself pulling this newly appreciated look off?
