According to Media Industry Newsletter, Time Inc.'s InStyle has the most ad pages this year, beating out Conde Nast's Vogue. Stats also show that InStyle has pulled in over 1,100 of ad pages this year, which is a 10 percent jump from last year. By comparison, Vogue has only jumped 8 percent.
Fashion magazines are considered an important barometer of the health of the magazine publishing industry, as they are often the first to pull out of a slump.
Hopefully, this is the beginning of the end of the worst advertising slump in magazine history. For the last nine consecutive quarters, the industry has been in a downward spiral and had not been getting exceptionally better until now.
"Moving forward, a majority of publishers are securing double digit increases vs. a year ago, making up for the significant revenue and page [shortfalls] in 2009," according to Robin Steinberg, senior vice president of print media at ad buyer MediaVest. "Magazines overall did not lose their audience, just their advertising."
