The McQueen label finally has a new creative director.
Sarah Burton, formerly the head of design for women's wear at Alexander McQueen, was named creative director at the label and Gucci Group. Burton will now oversee all of the creative developments of the label's future collections.
Burton, a graduate from London’s Central Saint Martins college in 1997, had worked with the late Lee Alexander McQueen since 1996, and was named head of design for women’s wear at the label in 2000. Burton was the brains of the completion of McQueen’s final collection, which were shown during the fall 2010 shows in Paris in March.
Burton said in the statement released Thursday confirming the move: “The creation of modern, beautifully crafted clothes was at the heart of Lee’s vision. I intend to stay true to his legacy.”
