Standout designer and CFDA darling Alexander Wang has just confirmed that he will be opening his own stand-alone store in New York "sometime this year". Wang told New York Magazine he's close to signing a lease, but won't say where. And to mark the occasion, he's decided to launch a new clothing line as well! That he's much more open about discussing, explaining the new collection of "essentials" will initially include three pairs of
pants, two jackets, and one flat-front shirt, with prices ranging from
$260 to $550. On this latest concept, he explained, "There's also this perception that we're very young. Going to trunk
shows, women always say, 'Oh my gosh, I love your brand.' This is our
way of being more democratic."
So will this be the beginning of what NYM calls "mom-and-daughter Wang"? Although Wang does admit that the new collection will be more tailored and have slightly more conservative silhouettes, he will of course be putting his own edgy spin on each piece (like a tailored blazer in buttery black leather). What Wang seems clear about expressing as well is the difference between this as yet to be named essentials collection and his casual basics line, T. "T is very casual and easy," he said. "I don't want
to say [the new line] is based on tailoring or business attire, but
they're two different focuses." More news on on the undisclosed location of Alexander Wang's new store as we find out!
