Tom Cruise and Jennifer Lopez's hip hop number wasn't the only sumptuous surprise at this year's MTV Movie Awards! The stars, while not flaunting lavish ball gowns and sleek frocks actually looked–dare I say–good??
Well, most of the time. What we did notice were that the celebs, while trying too hard to be different from the pack, were actually subconsciously copying each other in terms of texture, color scheme, pattern, and embellishment. That's why it wasn't quite so difficult to pick out the top trends at this year's MTV Movie Awards.
They included the usual sparkle and shine, solid colors, patterned pieces, and femme frocks, with a twist.
Bright Colors, Patterns, and Prints
Best: Whitney Port
Something about this hip hugging Yigal Azrouel dress works so well on Whitney. Maybe it's the way the canary yellow brings out her wavy blonde tresses. Maybe it's the way those architectural suede sandals match the beige undertone of the dress so perfectly and look so innovative too! It just works!
Worst: Stephanie Pratt
Too many smoky neon colors makes Miss Pratt look like a peacock, and not the cool Matthew Williamson-print kind.
Solid Colors and Femme Frocks
Best: Jessica Biel
Does fashion designer boyfriend Justin Timberlake have some influence? This may just be the best I've ever seen Jessica Biel look. So often we watch Jessica Biel in tomboyish action roles which always makes it an interesting surprise when we see her out in floral print dresses or sleek gowns. In this case, she's both trendy, cute, and pulled together in a sort of modern Victorian way. Love the dotted sleeves, love the pink bow, love the feathered skirt!
Worst: Lauren Bosworth
Bold red color notwithstanding, who told Lauren Bosworth she could dress like an old school marm for the MTV Movie Awards??
Best: Lindsay Lohan
Hard to believe that Lindsay wins a best dressed category in my book, but I commend her for trying some different and going for a certain feel, though it does feel a little bit Boogie Nights? After all, she is playing a porn star in her next role–perhaps she's trying some method acting?
Worst: Katy Perry
This blue smurfette–er, girlfriend of a British comedian–er, California girl–er, diva–certainly craves her attention.
Ruffles and Embellishments
Best: Christina Aguilera
These virtual no-names are still on the radar enough to get their picture taken taken by the paparazzi. All except one, of course. This leading lady may just be posing as a Lady Gaga wannabe, but we still adored her lavish ensemble complete with fluffy train and short feather skirt.
