The other day I was strolling up Sixth Avenue around the upper 40s on my way to a press appointment. As I moved through the sea of nondescript men in navy pinstripe suits, I noticed a woman ahead of me teetering in a pair of black patent leather Christian Louboutin platform peeptoe slingbacks – the ones with the 4-7/10 inch heel, if you please! As if the scarlet soles weren’t enough to draw appreciative eyes, the perfectly straight seams of her Wolford hose were. As we moved up the avenue, more and more excruciatingly chic women seemed to join the throng. There was the Valentino day suit I had just seen in the Bergdorf’s catalog – and the Lady Dior Cannage in white patent leather – and the McQueen butterfly print maxi dress. I was beginning to wonder if I had taken a wrong turn and landed on Madison Avenue in the 60s. As the sea of people around me transformed from a Mad Men throng into a full fledged fashion riot, I realized that I was walking right into the eye of the summer fashion storm – the opening of Sex and the City 2 at Radio City Music Hall.

Much has already been written about the purported $10 million budget that Patricia Field had for the wardrobe, but I couldn’t possibly avoid giving a nod to the fashion and giving you a few tips on amping up your SATC style this summer. If you’ve been getting your cougar on lately, then pick up a new Herve Leger bandage dress that would have Samantha given you the evil eye for hunting in her territory. This summer’s tank style is the most flattering for curvy body types. If you relate more to Miranda’s man eating power style, then herald your victory over workplace barriers with a pair of YSL “Triumph” platform pumps.

For the Charlottes among you, there is no more ladylike accessory than the Lady Dior bag made famous by the late Princess Diana. The one that Charlotte carries in the movie in pink lizard – and impossible to get – but consider investing in a classic black patent cannage version. Sure it’s a month’s rent on a New York one bedroom, but you’ll have it forever! As for Carrie-style, you’ll need an assortment of effortless Halston Heritage dresses. My favorite is this one-shouldered, peach-colored stretch jersey dress. The color is perfect for any summer party and the silhouette could not be fresher. You’ll be sure to turn heads wherever you go!

With the summer barbecue season in full swing, the competition for invitations to chic July 4th events is as fierce as any high end sample sale. If you’ve managed to secure a coveted invite, then make sure you stand out from the crowd in an appropriately colored or patterned look. If you never invested in Catherine Maladrino’s iconic Flag print dress, fear not as Ms. Malandrino has reissued the print in a brand new silhouette. This season’s Flag dress is utterly feminine with flounced sleeves and hits just above the knee. You’ll be perfectly patriotic and completely chic!
Have a wonderful summer and stay stylish!
