Everyone is all atwitter these days about who will get the highly anticipated 'September Issue' spots in the round table of fashion magazines. The September issue is the most important issue of the year for our beloved style bibles, marking the crucial turn from warm weather fashions to fall and generating a significant portion of yearly ad sales. So the choice on who gets to grace this most coveted of covers can be agonized over for months. Model, actress or pop star—the choice is ultimately dependent on who can get the mags moving the most, making the September cover girl (in some ways) the face of that title's future.
NY Mag did some digging on September issue names and found some that were rumored to be true. They include Harper's Bazaar — Jennifer Aniston, British Harper's Bazaar — Gisele, British Cosmopolitan — Cat Deely, Elle — Julia Roberts, British InStyle — Nicole Richie, Vanity Fair — Lady Gaga and Vogue — Halle Berry. So far there's nothing too surprising or significant about the list, everyone included is either a regular in the spotlight or has a movie/album coming out in the fall. The only really notable name is Halle Berry. If the rumor is true, Berry will be the first African American woman to appear on the September issue of Vogue since Naomi Campbell did in 1989. No stranger to knocking down walls, the first black Academy Award winning Best Actress was featured on the mag once before in 2002 and is sure to make a gorgeous September cover girl if given the opportunity again. Berry is reportedly among the ranks due to her new scent coming out in August called Reveal, and her indie flick Frankie and Alice coming out this fall. Vogue's first black cover model was Beverly Johnson in 1974.
