Betsey Johnson wants you to see/smell a bit more of her lately.
Betsey Johnson just signed a licensing deal with New York based Inter Parfus Inc. for fragrances and personal care products, as well as color cosmetics. This could eventually turn into lipstick and eye shadow collections as well. The agreement runs until Dec. 31, 2015.
The designer has had numerous attempts trying her hand at launching a scent. Four years ago, she tried the same ill-fated fragrance format with Colorful Licenses BV but she has also seen success since her first fragrance launched in 1982.
Jonathan Friedman, executive vice president, chief operating officer and chief financial officer of Betsey Johnson LLC, explained, “We just didn’t have the partner like we do now. Inter Parfums has everything we’re looking for — global distribution and a great stable of other brands.”
The fragrance is due in Johnson’s 66 boutiques, Web site and a yet-to-be-determined retail chain next month. That introduction will be followed by a newly developed women’s scent slated to bow next year.
