After over a decade of coveting everything we've seen on marcjacobs.com, but not being able to actually buy anything, times have finally changed. Marc Jacobs has gotten himself on the e-commerce bandwagon, having taken his time like many other high end houses, to make his drool-worthy duds available to the worldwide web. Up until recently, the only place you could purchase luxury merch online was from carriers like Shopbop and Net-a-Porter since many labels refused to sell clothing on their own site. However, in these quickly changing times, the internet offers increased exposure and caters to a broader market—elements that even the luxury houses can't afford to pass up.
Marc Jacobs' president Robert Duffy recently hinted to The New York Times that not only will the e-commerce site, (when launched in September), feature full collections from both Marc Jacobs as well as Marc by Marc Jacobs, it may also carry inventory exclusive to the site. As in, not available in any actual store. So first he refuses to do business online, and now he's making it so some of his business is only online. That's so Marc!
