So here I am 9 days in and two pounds lighter! I weighed myself yesterday and was happy with the results. Mind you, I secretly wished it was more like a 4 lbs. weight loss, since I feel that much lighter, but I will take what I can get. At least the scale is moving in the right direction. I have about 23 pounds to go and I'm totally into it.
Is the plan hard? Not at all, but as our beauty editor Kelley can attest (she started Nutrisystem on Monday) the first few days you may be starving. I didn't realize my portion sizes had been out of control. As soon as you see what appears to be three spoonfuls of cereal in your bowl or a cinnamon bun that's the size of a silver dollar it all becomes crystal clear…"Oh my God, how many calories have I been ingesting?" I will never look at one of those super-sized muffins at a deli the same way again! Evil, evil, evil.
I also discovered if you do a strenuous workout, you may become ravenous and want to eat everything that isn't nailed down. Last weekend I took an intense spinning class. Mixed with heat and humidity, I was soaked when I left the gym and had probably burned about 400 calories. By 1pm I was not only starving, I could feel my blood sugar dropping. I had already eaten my Nutrisystem lunch, but I had to stop and get a salad with grilled chicken and fat-free dressing. At least I didn't really blow it. I later found out from a Nutrisystem nutritionist that I was allowed to add an extra protein and fruit those days I work out hard. Thank God or I never would have made it. As it stands I am having a little under 1,200 calories per day on this plan.
How is the food? Well, admittedly some things are better than others. Then again, we all have different tastes and what I might like, you might not. I'm glad to have Kelley to share faves with. We both like the dinners with tomato sauce, like the vegetarian lasagna, cheese ravioli and cheese tortellini. After last night I have to say the mac and cheese with beef is a new fave. The breakfasts are my favorite, except for the puny cinnamon bun. I love the lowfat granola and some of the other cereals. And the desserts? Well I feel like I'm cheating, they are that good! Those are my saving grace. If it were not for a little something to satisfy my sweet-tooth I wouldn't have made it 2 days! The entrees I wasn't so crazy for are the ones like Swedish Meatballs and Asian Orange Style Chicken. I have a lot of soups to contend with which in this hot weather are completely unappealing even though I generally like soup…in the winter! Thankfully, next month I get to chose my own items. However, I suggest trying everything the first month so you can determine your own likes and dislikes.
