A Day in the Life: My Nutrisystem Journey Week 5

August 5, 2010 • Magazine

No shame! Here I am working "it" with a model at a Tory Burch event 2 days ago. (Don't worry, I didn't get these jeans).

Another week, another pound off. Why did I think this weight was going to come off faster? I'm so impatient. If one more person tells me that the weight you lose more slowly stays off longer, I'm going to scream!I am really regretting eating like I was going to the electric chair while I was pregnant.

So this Saturday I leave to visit my parents for 10 days and I'm nervous. I shipped my Nutirsystem food ahead to their house two days ago, but I know when I go home…I eat. Seriously. Am I really going to be able to eat Nutrisystem lasagna when my mother's cooking is staring me in the face? Or will I be able to consume Nutrisystem pizza when we always go to my favorite Chinese restaurant? This is going to be a tough challenge and I'm not sure I am up to it. Realistically my goal is to imbibe a little bit and come back with no weight gain. Do I think I am going to lose weight while I'm away? Doubtful. Especially when I'm losing about 1.5 lbs. on average a week. Wouldn't THAT be a hoot if I actually lost weight while away? I think my chances of winning the lottery are better.

So, I bet you are wondering…what does the food look like? Well, I have to admit, unless you plate it, not so good. If you try to eat it out of the container, it's a pretty dismal situation. However, I have to tell you, most of it tastes much better than it looks. Then again by the time lunch rolls around i'm so hungry I would eat anything! The desserts though are basically heavenly. I would not make it without them.

This is my Nutrisystem box o' food taking up prime real-estate in my Manhattan-sized pad.

Here is an example of my lunch the other day:

Self explanatory lunch-shown almost actual size

Here it is dry, before adding water

Cooked and read to eat

Poured over steamed broccoli in a Spode bowl…ah, much better.

It was actually yummy. One of the better lunches for sure. Too bad I didn't order any for the month! Doh.

So what are my lessons learned this week? Don't sweat the slow weight loss; accept the fact when you travel it's going to be harder to stick to the plan, but do the best you can; ship your food ahead; plate your Nutrisystem food on dishes you love; and NEVER, EVER pose with a stick-thin model!
