As the days of summer grow shorter, school age children find their carefree summer days interrupted with shopping trips driving by lists disseminated by the powers that be. Whether they are shopping for textbooks, protractors, itchy corduroy pants or ugly plaid skirts, they have something in common with their older fashion world counterparts: anxiety. For those of us in fashion, New York Fashion Week kicks off the global fashion week season and the accompanying swirl of fashion events. The fashion nerds among us dutifully approach this task with zeal, gladly kicking off our limited-edition Havaianas to slip on this season’s must-have YSL Johnny Boots, although some us have to be dragged, kicking and screaming, into our otherwise favorite boutiques.
You may have successfully averted your eyes from the windows of the world’s boutiques, those temples of high fashion that have been teasing us with suede and fur since mid-July, but now we’re in the home stretch. Early registration for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York has been open for weeks, and the more enthusiastic among us, myself included, have already submitted our “candid” – that means professionally groomed, shot, and retouched – headshots for the new photo ID’s that will be the hottest accessory this fall. This means it’s time to buckle down and take a hard look at your fall wardrobe.
