Summary: Rebecca Minkoff seemingly enjoyed designing her Spring 2011 collection. The mostly neutral-colored line of ready-to-wear, shoes and—of course—bags, was a portrait of a woman on the go, one that perhaps Rebecca saw in herself. Minkoff used the words "femme vagabond" to describe her muse and clearly, there is some resonance of a jet-setting, no nonsense persona. High-waisted shorts, long skirts and fringed bags paid homage to the late 1970s, a time when a woman could be liberated in her sexuality. But the crisp blazers, buttery leather jackets and poppy red punches provided a much current take on the retro trends. Overall, the line managed to achieve a balance between girly sweetness—with its feminine silhouettes, soft colors and draping fabrics—and the tough edginess that comes with snakeskin satchels, fitted leather and lots and lots of metal chain. Truly, this is what young, hip girls on either coast will be wearing come spring.
