Summary: You can always count on Dennis Basso to bring intrigue to the party. Known by many for his meticulous studies of fur in the fall shows, proved that spring can be a playground for the avant-garde as well. His thought-provoking spring line ranged from the cutting edge to classically gorgeous to just bizarre. He consistently played off of dimension, melding traditional silhouettes with modernistic fabrics. He also seemed to incorporate the concept of space—both in the use of cut outs and sheer panels, as well as in the Sta-Trek esque aesthetic of his liquidy metallic neoprene.
I especially liked his attention to volume, blowing up many of his pieces into a cacophony of fabric with an effect that was undeniably breathtaking. And all the while, the fur tagged along—snug here in a bolero or there in the panels of a sleeveless duster. Personally I think Basso's risky business paid off for the most part, the gowns especially placing him in a league outside of just a furrier. The only looks I didn't particularly love were those boasting the optic clear paillettes. They don't show up well in the photos but in person, the plastic-looking fabric could only be likened to a shower curtain and was not luxe looking at all among the rest of the decadent and carefully hand-crafted collection.
