Beauty Buzz. Clinique Redness Solutions Makeup For Sufferers of Rosacea

October 6, 2010 • Beauty

Facial redness, classified as facial flushing or “flare-ups” is caused by inflammation or blood vessels sitting at the surface of the skin. This redness can occur suddenly and be triggered by many variables, such as emotions, food and alcohol intake, climate or hormonal changes. Some flare-ups can cause the skin to become extremely sensitive and warm due to the increased blood flow at the surface of the skin.  One of the most common forms of facial redness is Rosacea. In fact, 14 million Americans suffer from Rosacea. This facial skin disorder known for its red and blotchy appearance can occur on the cheeks, nose, chin, neck and forehead. It’s one of the more embarrassing and uncomfortable beauty concerns that’s difficult to treat, and difficult to cover.

Leave it to Clinique to offer a product line specifically designed to address facial redness that’s appropriate for skins with mild to moderate Rosacea. Now available are; Clinique Redness Solutions Makeup SPF 15 with Probiotic Technology liquid makeup, Clinique Redness Solutions Targeted Corrector yellow-hued concealer and Clinique Redness Solutions Instant Relief Mineral Powder which measurably reduces redness on contact. With these three products you should be armed and dangerous.

Redness Solutions Makeup SPF 15 with Probiotic Technology contains neutralizing pearls that have a yellow-green undertone to instantly camouflage redness, leaving skin looking calmer, more uniform and less blotchy. To help protect redness suffers, Redness Solutions Makeup SPF 15 with Probiotic Technology contains antioxidants, such as Vitamin E, and a blend of sunscreens with a broad spectrum ratio of 3:1 UVB to UVA protection. This makeup is perfect for skin types I, II and III who suffer from mild to moderate Rosacea and is available in six neutralizing shades for $24.50.

Redness Solutions Targeted Corrector is a creamy yellow-hued concealer formulated with several key ingredients proven to help soothe skin and immediately help neutralize the look of redness. The long-wearing, universal shade is appropriate for all skin types and sells for $19.50.

Redness Solutions Instant Relief Mineral Powder is lab-certified to immediately neutralize visible redness. Perfect for skin experiencing reactive or persistent redness, this powder contains a patent-pending complex rich in natural anti-irritants.  Under the care and cover of this unique mineral treatment, skin “keeps its cool” while helping to keep visible redness at bay. Suitable for even the most sensitive skin, including skin experiencing Rosacea, this master of disguise is really a treatment at heart. From the moment you brush it on it vanishes; making visible redness and broken capillaries virtually disappear as well. Even the included brush was developed using the unique Anti-Bacterial Technology. This breakthrough technology helps protect the brush from the growth of mold, fungus and bacteria. $32.50.

I was sent the 3 items to try, but I don't have Rosacea. However, I have a friend who does. Since we make it our policy not to tout those items we have not tried and loved, I asked my friend to try them for me and report back.

SCS: How long have you had Rosacea?
FWR (Friend with Rosacea): I have had Rosacea for about 5 years, maybe a bit longer.

SCS: How bad would you say it is?
FWR: It occasionally flares to severe but usually mild to moderate.

SCS: Have you tried other products and did they work?
FWR: I never saw any cosmetics targeted to the redness; I have just used regular cover ups but they failed miserably, just making my skin look uneven, at best.

SCS: How would you rate the Clinique products?
FWR: I loved the Clinique products. They covered my recent flare up with ease and left my face with an even, natural looking patina. The spot stick was great for touch ups during the day. The liquid went on evenly and flawlessly and the powder was the icing on the cake. I felt confident that no one knew I was hiding any redness.

SCS: Which was your favorite and why?
FWR: I liked the liquid makeup the best probably because that is what I am used to using. I rarely use a product like the mineral powder. I also feel I have more control with the liquid. I love the spot stick for touch ups during the day especially since I tend to touch my face a lot during the day and/or sweat on my face, depending on the weather.

SCS: Would you recommend Clinique Redness Solutions to a friend with Rosacea?
FWR: I have no hesitation in recommending this line to a friend with Rosacea. They work, why not?

SCS: Anything else you would like to add?
FWR: I was fortunate that the sample color liquid make up was the right shade for me. It was comfortable, not heavy and made such a difference in my appearance.  I felt confident and ready for my meeting without any self-consciousness. I knew I was well covered.
