Project Runway winner and industry darling Christian Siriano has been able to deftly walk the wire between couture and fast fashion fans. His eponymous line consistently wows viewers at New York Fashion Week while his gently-priced line for Payless has been raking in the dough. So much so, in fact, that Siriano has decided to expand his Payless collection from just evening wear shoes to include up to 20 styles of shoes, boots, sandals, and handbags for Fall 2011.
And not to leave his luxury clientele out, Siriano is also considering a higher-priced footwear line to go along with his RTW clothing collection. Stylelist recently spoke to the designer who noted he knew that many of his admirers could not very well afford one of his signature voluminous, dramatic dresses for four or five figures. "That's why I do the Payless collection, because a lot of the fans are young and can't afford the clothing," he said.
Siriano went on to articulate how important his customer base is to him, saying, "
"As a younger designer, being with the customer is the best knowledge you can get," he said. "That's how I design my collections. I don't know if everyone loves them, but my fan does, which is important." And if all these plans for expansion weren't enough, Siriano says don't be surprised if he rolls out blueprints for a lower-priced clothing collection as well. Seems there can be a bit of of Christian for everyone!
