Guess who the latest celebrity to jump on the branding bandwagon is? None other than country/pop singer and the music industry's latest darling—Taylor Swift. Elizabeth Arden has reportedly signed Swift to a fragrance deal which plans to launch next year.
“I have always loved how fragrance can shape a memory …the way certain scents remind you of events and people that are imprinted in your thoughts,” Swift's official statement said, which also noted that the 20 year old will be involved in developing, packaging and marketing the scents which will bear her name. “Lately I’ve been having fun experimenting with combining some of my favorite scents, so I’m really excited about working with Elizabeth Arden to develop my own unique fragrance.”
Swift's barely legal status in the beauty biz likens her to former Arden celebrity fragrance-makers Britney Spears, Mariah Carey and Hilary Duff, who clearly appeal to a younger audience. But that doesn't seem to deter the starlet, who was catapulted into super stardom after being infamously interrupted by Kanye West at the MTV Video Music Awards last year.
Since then, its been a whirlwind of award shows and supposed boyfriends for Swift, whose first beauty deal as a new face for Cover Girl was announced last May. And though the over 25+ crowd may not be running to the counters to smell like the cutesy crooner, Arden seems sure that her look will be a valuable addition to the brand. “A beauty deal for her would have to be for a youthful, mass brand, because she’s a country star who appeals to the masses.” Look for the first line of Taylor-approved products to drop in fall 2011.
