Uh, oh. This is a huge plight that effects the whole industry.
Due to skyrocketing demands for cotton from areas such as China and India due to cotton-crop shortages, cotton is about to get a bit more expensive.
The price of cotton has risen almost 80 percent since July. This means that many clothing retailers in which cotton is their base, (i.e. all retailers dealing with clothing basics and jeans) will have to raise their prices. This also means to might be finding a lot more other materials blended into your normal 100% cotton separates.
“World cotton production is unlikely to catch up with consumption for at least two years,” said Sharon Johnson, senior cotton analyst with the First Capital Group.
