This is a good week for fashion-based technology. In addition to the websites introduced this week by Google and Tumblr, Fashism, an online fashion startup based in New York, has raised an angel round led by A Grade Investments (Ashton Kutcher, Guy Oseary).
Fashism will offer instant feedback and advice on users' style choices. Users post pictures of outfits, ask questions, and community members give their feedback by voting and commenting on each look. Other investors and participants include Demi Moore, Nina Garcia, SV Angel (Ron Conway, David Lee), High Line Venture Partners (Shana Fisher), NV Investments (Vivi Nevo), Vast Ventures (Doug Chertok), and Rick Webb.
Fashism has already partnered with designer Elie Tahari, haircare brand Redken, and online retailers ModCloth and Fred Flare. Since its founding in 2009, the site has attracted approximately 40,000 registered users and over 50,000 downloads of its iPhone app.
Foursquare CEO Dennis Crowley and the designer Steven Alan will serve as advisors to the company while Ashton Kutcher join the board of directors.
