I was never one of those people that bought a tweed jacket or a see-through top just because Rachel Bilson was wearing one. Still, I firmly believe celebrities are a strong inspiration for today's fashion because: 1) Designers give them their latest to parade in for fashion PR, 2) They have the finances to do so, and 3) They have the platform to really show off their sense of style, if they have one.
Some of them notice the trends before anyone else. Others try their hand at their own designer label and while they often fail, there are diamonds in the rough (the Olsen twins, Whitney Port, Kimora Lee Simmons.)
If Santa FINALLY gave me the chance to dive into my favorite celebrity wardrobes, here's what I'd choose!
Nicholas Kirkwood Blue Suede Platforms With Lattice Detail, Browns Fashion, $929
Fashionista extraordinaire Sarah Jessica Parker loves wearing Nicholas Kirkwood's bright statement making shoes because they're the perfect contradiction to monochromatic tones like black and white. I'm dying over the graphic spray effect of these babies!
Kardashian Konfidential, Amazon.com, $14.03
The Kardashians are everywhere right now. I just can't get enough of them or their reality show Keeping Up With The Kardashians. And kudos to Kim and the rest of the clan for showing that you can be fashionable and healthy without having a petite size 1 figure and no curves! Call it a guilty pleasure but I must get a copy of their new book Kardashian Konfidential to find out more about them and to learn how those girls pick out their killer wardrobe.
Erdem Mayken Printed Silk-satin Dress, Net-a-Porter, $620.05
Lea Michele is always so fresh, but trendsetting whether she's wearing ruffles or prints. I fell in love with her look at the TV Guide 2010 Hot List Party and learned she wearing a cool, abstract butterfly print Erdem dress. I found a similar Erdem dress on Net-a-Porter and am dying for it to be mine this holiday season.
I'm not a big fan of the Disney High School Musical girls, but I am a fan of some of their stylish items, including the extremely crisp sharp-shouldered Plastic Island blazer which was seen on both Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale. Whitney Port, Leighton Meester, and Kourtney Kardashian were seen in their own Plastic Island blazers and Kourtney's sister Kim Kardashian was spotted wearing her Plastic Island blazer multiple times! The Gala blazer is sold out everywhere, but no matter. I'm opting for this rich Carnie Stud Detailed Blazer in Black from Nikabutik.
I'm so not a fan of celebrities who think they can turn designer. I hated collections from J.Lo, Lauren Conrad, and I don't think Jessica Simpson should do her own line. Surprisingly, though, little Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen make me change my mind. These two girls, while not exactly dressing the way I'd like, in lavish furs and dumpy clothing, know what they're doing when it comes to fashion management and creating their own lines. I'm a big fan of The Row, Olsenboye, and Elizabeth and James and currently drooling over the Elizabeth and James Holiday Collection, especially the Luna Dress with embellished sleeves.
