Carine Roitfeld

The fashion world is still reeling today from Friday's news that French Vogue's EIC, the tragically hip Carine Roitfeld, is stepping down from her post next month. When the news first broke late last week, there was talk of Roitfeld may be leaving the mag to pursue a consulting role with her bestie and tragically hip male counterpart, Tom Ford.

But the day after she went public, Ford claimed there was no current collaboration in the works—sadly. Ford told The New York Times on Saturday that he was, "as surprised as everyone else" by the news of Roitfeld's departure. He went on to say, “Carine and I have no plans to work together at the moment, and it is nothing that we have even discussed, but of course I think she is brilliant and we are close friends so who knows about the future.”

Roitfeld has been credited with revamping the entire tone and image of the international fashion bible during her reign of the past ten years. Her raw, visceral take on luxury was  brought to life with the help of legendary photographers like Steven Klein, Mario Sorrenti, Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, and Mario Testino along with the brilliant perspectives of industry titans like Karl Lagerfeld, Hedi Slimane and Ford. So while media moguls are still puzzling over the cause of Roitfeld's departure, some are starting to accept the fact that she really is leaving and starting to wonder who could actually replace her. ex–Russian Vogue editor Aliona Doletskaya, Love editor Katie Grand and Japanese Vogue fashion director Anna Dello Russo are a few of the initial names being discussed.
