Congratulations to Alberta Ferretti on her plans for her latest runway show, set for Jan. 11, during the international exhibition Pitti Uomo. The Italian designer, known for her ultra-feminine and ethereal designs, may be pioneering a new movement in runway by announcing she will forgoe using regular models in her show, choosing instead to showcase a careful selection of women, who she calls her "muses".
"My muses are always the women of today. I wanted to show my outfits on women, not only on models like in Milan,” Ferretti said a press conference late last week. The designer confirmed Camilla Belle, Carmen Dell’Orefice, Marisa Berenson, Talulah Riley and Inés Sastre as some of the “real women,” set to represent a special collection of 30 looks designed exclusively for the Florence show where Ferretti will serve as guest of honor.
Others confirmed to appear in the show include various actresses and Italian socialites such as Georgie Henley, Zani Gugelmann, Tamsin Egerton, Olivia Ong and Darya Spirovadova. Other "non-fashion" personalities include a scientific researcher, a lawyer who specializes in family law, a psychologist and a blogger (woo-hoo!)
In keeping with theme of the exhibition, Feretti plans to pledge a donation to The Jordan River Foundation — a nonprofit Jordanian nongovernmental organization that works to empower women and children, which is chaired by Queen Rania of Jordan. So bravo to Ferretti, both for using women outside the model mold and for using her skills to give back to great cause!
