Rock & Republic Saved By The Bell?

Michael Ball

Embattled denim brand Rock & Republic may be saved by the bell, but the ball (founder Michael Ball that is) might finally be out! According to the NY Post, Rock & Republic has been scooped out of bankruptcy for $57 million by VF Corp., the apparel conglomerate that owns brands like Lee and Wrangler jeans, North Face and Seven For All Mankind.

Michael Ball, the California founder and designer who has been accused of everything from sexual harassment to blackmail to hurling a cocktail glass at a bar patron apparently has been booted from the brand for good. He also opted to send Rock & Republic into Chapter 11 amid a tiff with Richard Koral choosing to run the business into the ground rather than give up control.

"VF always was interested in Rock & Republic, but always on the condition that Ball was out of the picture," according to one source close to the deal. VF held on-again, off-again talks with Rock & Republic since the denim brand filed for Chapter 11 in April.
