What I love most about awards shows, besides the Hollywood glam factor, is that celebrities take risks with their gowns. Sometimes it works—and more often than not, it doesn't! That being said, the Screen Actors Guild Awards for 2011 saw those actresses taking very few of those risks. The result, while beautiful and refined as always, was, in my opinion—BORING! (Lauren, you might have to fight me on this one!)
The actresses that did take a risk, in their pattern, texture of dress or statement color, while still maintaining their Hollywood glam were by far the best dressed. Here's what I mean!
Finally!! It's not red OR Versace!
Beautifully patterned Louis Vuitton with a sweetheart neckline. We saw a lot of actresses pulling off the strapless look with a more voluminous bottom half.
Ombre gowns have been quite in this season!
I'm always a fan of Kim Kardashian when she actually pulls off a Grecian goddess/Roman emperess look—and does it well!
While Susan Sarandon's conservative gown was more subdued than the rest, it fit her perfectly and looked exquisite on her!
In a departure from their past looks, Glee's Dianna Agron and actress Julia Stiles wore beautiful dark makeup with their dark blue dresses.
Tina Fey is typically dressed down–but she gets better and better with every ceremony!
The deep blue color is exquisite, as are the delightful way the draping accentuates her curves.
Sweet But Nothing Spectacular
While I applaud her for still trying to be out-of-the-box, I'm sorry to say that Nicole Kidman's awards show style isn't what it used to be.
Black and White
There was an overabundance of simple black gowns (with a bit of glitter) and white, white, white! While it's no surprise that Amy Adams would choose such a shade to fit her bright and bubbly personality, it was quite a departure for stars like Winona Ryder and Natalie Portman who are particularly known for playing dark characters.
Helena Bonham Carter, who made a big fashion faux-pas at the Golden Globes, looked delightfully debonair in her frilly black and white get up.
Pale Colors and Blush Tones
Ill-fitting, off-colors and strange designs galore!
I know Jenna Fischer and Melissa Leo are not pregnant…so why do they look like they are?
This is a Mark Zuckerberg fashion no-no! Just like you don't wear flip flops—you don't wear a pantsuit to a black-tie event! Unless you're Jennifer Aniston. She can get away with it. Julie Bowen can't.
