I recently visited Sassoon Watertower Place for haircolor and a cut (before New York Fashion Week) and asked my favorite color and style directors if there are any special tips for hair in the winter season.
First I met with Color Director Nicole Tabloff. "There is really no need to do anything much different with the color during the winter. I may add more highlights on some of my clients' hair since there is not as much sun to lighten their hair. Mostly you just want to keep the moisture in your hair as you would year round. Curly hair may need more moisture. It really all depends on the individual's hair."
After Nicole expertly colored my hair with both highlights and low-lights for a very natural look, she used Pixelist Express Treatment by Kérastase Color Sealer and Protector. My hair felt soft and strong after the treatment. Nicole always gives me highlights that grow out well, giving my color a long life.
Then it was on to Creative Director Marilyn Harmon for my cut. Marilyn, too, said she was not going to do anything very different style-wise for my hair because it is winter! She basically followed the Sassoon Credo: "We never concoct styles that just wash out, but cut a shape that stays in the hair, making it quick and simple to recreate every day." And this is exactly what she did for me!
I was happy to tell her that the products she recommended for me about 4 months ago, Kérastase Age Premium Shampoo and Masque, worked extremely well for my "winter hair" kept it strong, gave it some texture and avoided static. She said that they can suggest products for nourishing and styling hair based on the needs of each person. Marilyn and Nicole both also suggested Kérastase Elixir Ultime Spray, a cocktail of emollient and anti-oxidant ingredients for shine and cellular renewal that leaves a smooth finish and keeps away the dreaded winter static!
