Summary: It was no secret that the theme for Mara Hoffman's collection surrounded a goddess-like mother figure. Hoffman herself, resplendent in one of her celestial gowns and sporting an impressive baby bump, said herself that two of the main words to describe the collection were "nomadic" and "desert". And truly, it did feel like guests of the presentation were a part of some twilight desert caravan, from the twinkling lighting to the ethereal musical stylings of the band Water Fai.
Inspired by her artist husband's body of work entitled O Babylon, Hoffman channeled a sort of matriarchal high priestess court, complete with turbans, medallions and round-framed glasses. Long maxi gowns in swaths of silk georgette and chiffon rippled with every pattern imaginable, from traditional stripes to geometrics to tribals. Intricate accents such as tassels, beading and rope adorned everything from jackets to pants and added to the overtly bohemian mystique. And while the drama and the tranquility of the collection was a nice change of pace, it was hard to admit that the collection was decidedly fall. And what evidence there was of fall pieces, such as chunky knit sweaters and belted jackets with fringe, did not stand out nearly as much as the sleeveless maxi dresses and breezier fabrics.
