Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week Fall ’11. Kens, Kens and More Kens at the CFDA’s Kenswear event at Christie’s

February 14, 2011 • New York Fashion Week Fall '11, Yahoo

As many know (I did not, before Sunday night) Ken and Barbie broke up in 2004, a breach of romance that was understandably met with chagrin by the couple's adoring public (they had been together for 43 years, you know). With a campaign to reunite the perfect-bodied couple, the CFDA partnered with Barbie and Christie's for a special menswear presentation at the famed auction house, featuring a slew of male models styled, and standing pleasantly on pedestals, in outfits designed by some of the CFDA's top names in menswear.

With tags around their wrists, the male model "mannequins" represented special occasion Kens, like "Beach Date Ken," or "Winter Date Ken." As guests sipped champagne or various pink-themed martinis, and noshed on mini-doll size snacks (like a hamburger and french fry combo fit for the palm of your hand!) or cupcakes from Magnolia Bakery, they could stroll the room (bedecked with highlights from Christie's First-Open Post-War and Contemporary Art sale), listen to music by Paul Sevigny, and ponder which Ken is the perfect Ken for them (if not all of them).

Featuring looks by Simon Spurr, Michael Bastian, Billy Reid, Nicholas K, Robert Gellar, and Yigal Azrouël, there was nary a Ken in sight who wasn't fit for Barbie.

And don't worry everyone — word on the street is that Barbie said yes! She and Ken are back together. All is right with the world.
