Summary: After waiting for the usual huge crowd to arrive at the Max Azria Fall '11 Collection, and the show finally began, the loud droning and repetitive drum beat of the music was actually soothing. Also soothing were the clean lines of the menswear suiting and fluid movement and shine of silk blouses and shirt dresses in a neutral color palette of rich earth-tones. The models walked briskly with their slicked back hair pulled into long ponytails flipping about with a cool attitude. Slim leather skirts hemmed just above the knee were sexy without being too revealing. Less is more here. Shots of bright orange, white and teal popped into the collection. The leather chokers, belts and thick ankle strap pumps added a modern look to the classic cuts of suits and shirts. The georgette tunic that flowed all the way to the floor in black over slim black leather pants was one of my favorite looks (and was also worn by Lubov Azria when she and Max took their bow). Overall the collection was simple, clean and sophisticated, and I walked away liking it and wanting it.
