For spring/summer 2011 Jimmy Choo heads south… way south, but in a hot, steamy, sexy way! Tamara Mellon OBE of the phenomenal accessories line takes us on an exciting tour of Rio. We had an opportunity to sit down and chat with the fab English beauty at Nordstrom in Chicago prior to her public appearance about her new collection. She was very pleased about the “South American Gaucho girl” inspiration that gripped her for this season. The 1970s flare that is present throughout the collection is also a result of the coy fact that the 70s are Mellon’s “favorite decade.”
Beachy earth tones are dominant within this collection presenting the perfect neutral palette for the impeccable detail that can be seen within Mellon’s designs. The Jimmy Choo 'Zen' Bootie and the Jimmy Choo 'Vienna' Sandal are examples of this beautiful detail. Mellon designs around the notion that each collection should have “Something for everything” and this collection definitely has that!
We asked her about trends in shapes and styles of footwear. "Right now everything is in. The platform is here to stay because women like the height. We offer classics shapes as well, like the pair I am wearing." We adored her Jimmy Choo 'Lockett' pointed black pumps.
The spring/summer 2011 collection also brings us the fiery sex appeal of animal print which can be seen in her handbags as well as her shoes.
We asked Ms. Mellon what the best piece of advice she ever received, and without hesitation her response was “always trust your instincts” and that no-fear attitude is certainly working for her and her brand.
Most recently Ms. Mellon has received the enduring vision award for her work with Elton John’s AIDS foundation. Jimmy Choo has raised over 3.5 million dollars for the cause and helped over 500,000 women in Africa with programs such as the pep project to help prevent the spread of aids in Africa.
With her dynamic design talent and her generous nature Tamara Mellon proves that not only can you make a difference but you can do it in a really fierce pair of shoes!
