Last Friday night was a hot time in the cold town of Chicago as the city's best-looking set hit Enclave nightclub for TCW magazine's Top Singles Party. 50 of the city's most eligible bachelors and bachelorettes were featured at the fete, having been picked for their success, philanthropy and all around notability. The club was packed with singles and minglers alike, dining on appetizers from some of the city's best restaurants like Wow Bao and Garrett Popcorn and bidding on silent auction items to benefit the TCW Foundation.
And while meeting a prospective date that night was all well and good, I was more interested in scoping out the specifics of these singles—mainly, their ideas on fashion. So like a true reporter does, I accosted a few of the night's featured guests, targeting them by the 'TCW Top Single' button fastened to their clothes, and asked them what I would ask if I was considering them for a date—namely, where they shopped in Chicago, what they considered their personal style to consist of and what fashions were they looking toward for spring. (Note: I'm kidding—I wouldn't ask a person all that before deciding if I would date them…..at least, not all the time). But I did get some juicy dish on these standout stylish singles so Chicago, if you like what you see (and how could you not), get at them!
Name: Jesse Desoto
Occupation: Owner of Fred Astaire Dance Studio locations in Chicago (on Washington and Lake) and in Buffalo Grove (fredastaire.com)
Fave Places To Shop: Gucci, Banana Republic, Louis Vuitton, Kenneth Cole, Aldo, Target
Style Statement: I love dressing up but even more, I love t-shirts. I have drawers full of them, separated by color. I keep the grey ones in one drawer, the white ones in one drawer and the black ones in one drawer. For suits, I always go Gucci. This is a Gucci suit I'm wearing right now. And for shoes, you can't go wrong with Aldo and Kenneth Cole. Oh, and I love Asics. For wearing with my t-shirts.
Names: Maya-Camille Broussard (left) and Chrishnon Y. Lampley
Occupation: Gallery Curator and Director of Operations, respectively, at Three Peas Art Lounge (threepeasartlounge.com)
Fave Places To Shop: Thrift stores in Wicker Park, estate sales, Deliciously Vintage, Escada, Gucci, YSL
What They Can't Wait to Wear in Spring '11:
MB: Florals, but the kind with a big pattern against a white background, like shabby chic. Also platform sandals and anything that's boho without being dingy.
CL: Big, floppy hats and the bright colors I saw on the YSL spring runways—plums, deep reds and burnt oranges
Name: Michael Perry
Occupation: Co-Founder and Director of Promotions for MyDrinkOn.com, a daily deals site like Groupon that features drink deals around Chicago (mydrinkon.com)
Fave Places To Shop: Nordstrom, Saks, Burberry
Style Statement: For events, I'll usually do a full-on suit. This is a Sean Jean jacket and I get a lot of my ties from Burberry. My everyday work wardrobe is a little different, depending on whether I'm going out to a meeting or in the office, I may be a little more casual. What I'm really looking forward to is sailing season in the city when I can break out my shorts and boat shoes.
Name: Stacey Cohen
Occuaption: Interior Designer, LEED AP/CI and Founder of Stacey Cohen Interiors (staceycoheninteriors.com)
Fave Places To Shop: I love going to Saks and Neimans but most of my clothes are custom made. Being an interior designer puts me in touch with these amazing designers, dress makers and leather makers and I've been lucky enough to have a lot of my clothes made by them. I'll visit their showrooms and find a sample or a prototype that I love and they'll make it for me. And a lot of my jewelry is made by Zoe Oliver.
What She Can't Wait To Wear In Spring '11: Feminine details, clean lines, ruching, structure, lots of blacks, whites, greys and browns
Name: Sean Moran
Fave Places To Shop: Brooks Brothers, Ralph Lauren, Uniqlo, Outlier when I'm in NYC
Style Statement: I have always dressed 'preppy', but most of all I dress for myself. For spring/summer I look forward to busting out my summer suits and my seer sucker suit. Plus, I am a huge fan of 'deck shoes' and driving loafers throughout the summer. I refuse to wear sandals unless going to the beach. I think you can be comfortable & classically styled without resorting to flip flops, cargo shorts and baseball caps.
Thanks again to all the sassy Chicago singles for offering up their picks and tips!
