The sun was shining and spring was in the air last Saturday in Chicago. This set a wonderful mood to view and shop Elie Tahari's Spring 2011 Collection at Nordstrom Michigan Avenue. This event was also a celebration of the launch of the Tahari shoe, handbag, accessories and jewelry line at Nordstrom. Before the fashion show two names were drawn, one to win a gorgeous and classic Tahari handbag, and the other to be fitted for a pair of Tahari shoes. (I wondered with envy, "Which pair will she pick?")
The Elie Tahari fashion show included classic khaki separates, lightweight leathers, white pants, flare leg pant suits and little dresses in chic shapes. Along with a neutral palette shots of bright blue, yellow, coral, and shiny metallic accessories lit up the runway. One thing you can count on with Elie Tahari is a beautiful fit. I heard that Tahari thinks it is easy to fit models, so he also uses women in his office for fittings when he designs. That's why they look good on so many women.
Elie Tahari has always kept a low profile. In fact many women, including myself for many years, thought he was a woman! He came to New York after serving in the Israeli Air Force in 1972 without any money, camped out in Central Park and found work changing light bulbs in showrooms on Seventh Avenue. Here he listened and learned about women and what they wanted in fashion. Then he began designing disco dresses and tube tops which lead to creating a following, and his success. I could see that he still answers the call to what women want as I viewed in his lovely Spring 2011 Collection.
Shopping frenzie after the show. Drinks and appetizers were served but most women were after the clothes!

Elie Tahari was going to be at Nordstrom to answer questions and to assist customers with selections for this event, but unfortunately he had to fly to Israel for a family funeral. This would have been his first trip to Chicago, so hopefully he can visit Chicago very soon so we can meet him!
