All I had to hear was "Alexis Bittar" and "Bucktown" and I was in. In addition to being an avid fan of the jewelry designer's eclectically artful designs, his new boutique was in my neighborhood and I had been dying to check it out!
The New York born and based jeweler has become known for his profound designs that fuse antique classicism with modernity. His signature use of lucite, mixed metal and semi-precious stones have earned him a devoted following of fans in Chicago, and now we have one more reason to love him—a freestanding boutique. The small, sparse space on Damen held a pristine glow as deco chandeliers hung from the ceiling and the evening's unexpected guests—two stuffed gazelle/antelope looking creatures (I wasn't quite sure)—held court by the doorway.
All of Bittar's gorgeous wares were on display in little vignettes and just to see the pieces was a treat. In addition to his collection of jewelry and handbags, Bittar also offers select styles of eyewear. As an added perk to the evening, acclaimed writer and interior designer Rima Suqi was celebrating the launch of her new book, "American Fashion Designers At Home" from Assouline. Designers such as Tory Burch, Betsey Johnson, Isaac Manevitz, Reem Acra and scores of other world-renown names opened their homes up to Suqi to document and experience; and the glimpses I got were amazing.
While enjoying Champagne Ruinart, I slipped in and out of the crowd and perused the jewelry, mentally styling them into my entire wardrobe. It was difficult making up my mind which one was my favorite so I added a few (a lot) to my wishlist and decided to share for everyone to see what this new little gem in the neighborhood has to offer. Enjoy!
