Rebel With a Cause: The Kenneth Cole New York Fall 2011 Collection

Meeting Kenneth Cole

So last week I was invited to the Kenneth Cole New York Showroom to meet Kenneth Cole himself, check out the fall 2011 collection and to watch his favorite movie "Rebel Without a Cause." What could be better? Oh yes, all while eating gourmet popcorn, stuffing my face with candy, sipping champagne (I swear I only had a little) and hanging out with blogger friends. It had been years since I had seen that movie and I had forgotten how hot James Dean was. I digress.

Ah, heaven…

A bit about the Fall 2011 Collection:

The rugged landscape of the Irish highlands served as inspiration for the rich palette of Kenneth Cole New York's fall collection, where tones of fatigue greens and earthy browns commingled with cobalt blue, spicy saffron and rusty red. Feminine touches were juxtaposed with a masculine sensibility, and the classic romantic rebel was updated with sporty modern elements. I am usually one to shy away from saffron (or mustard), but I have to say I was really drawn to it in this collection.

The graphic updates and luxe faux fur accents took the classically feminine above-the-knee dresses layered with distressed leather motorcycle jackets, textured pencil skirts, tailored pantsuits and wool cotton trenches to a new level. Waists were accentuated with menswear-inspired, double-buckle belts worn on top of chunky three-quarter sleeve knits and sporty outerwear.

As for the accessories, think a modern spin on classic animal prints displayed through prim, yet urbane leopard-spotted shoulder bags and printed scarves. For shoes, mules, lace up booties, and wearable stacked heel loafers (loved these) were offered in a variety of fabrics including croc, suede, tweedy wool and patent leather.

Good news for fall…this line is totally wearable and thankfully affordable. I know some of these pieces will be hanging in my closet and on my feet.
