Lisa Birnbach and Tommy Hilfiger surrounded by models
Tommy Hilfiger’s Prep World Pop-Up house landed in Meatpacking two nights ago (literally… several cranes were involved during the past three days to get it in tact for the big night!). I got an exclusive sneak peek at the little cottage of a shop, and attended the VIP welcome party at the Standard Hotel’s beautiful garden room hosted by Tommy himself, and prep expert Lisa Birnbach. Other attendees included supermodel Jessica Stam, Ally Hilfiger, John Legend, Becka Diamond, and handfuls of other celebs were scattered around all night long!

Prep world is a spring/summer 2011 limited edition capsule collection of sixty pieces for both men and women. Tommy explained the collection by saying that that while “celebrating our 25th Anniversary all around the globe in 2010, I realized the preppy look with a twist we pioneered over the years has gone global; every corner of the world interprets it in different ways. I developed the Prep World capsule collection to capture that spirit of adaptability and individuality and what better way to showcase it than in a travelling authentic beach house.” How perfect! The cottage truly features Tommy’s quirky classic style with a twist, and some vintage mixed in as well! I can see that every piece is up to interpretation and can fit the unique lifestyle of any country across world, which is such a cool concept! Pieces run from some $40 knits to $298 for the more structured items.
The temporary cottage plans to move around the world all summer long… Paris, London, Los Angeles, Stockholm, Madrid, and Germany here we come! New York had the privilege of kicking off the of the worldwide summer collection with this fab party! The pop-up house is modeled after a true east coast beach house complete with an enormous tennis racket chandelier, aged shingles, a pink door, and copper gutters! The house oozes with preppyness in every inch of the space… right down to the “Taste of prep” M&M’s for sale! No detail has been left out of this quaint little cottage. The overwhelmingly clever little house is definitely a must shop spot for the moment! Hurry in because each afternoon has a set of special treats including take-home style cards, special guests, and style workshops with fashion editors! The line is also available at all Tommy Hilfiger retail stores, and online. The house is only open May 5th through 8th to the public, so pop in soon!
