Tons of designers these days are either releasing versions of their classic fragrances or introducing their third or fourth scents. But for red carpet glamor god Elie Saab, the fragrance market is a first. The designer is rolling out his first ever scent this summer, stating the idea behind it was “to translate his fashion’s DNA and philosophy into a women’s scent.”
“We really try to do our best to put his spirit inside a bottle.” said Nathalie Helloin Kamel, vice president of Parfums Issey Miyake and Elie Saab at BPI. The bottle’s design, which was inspired by a crystal object the designer had on his desk in Beirut for years, is said to have a balance between what BPI executives called “the rigorous and the fabulous” that weaves through Saab’s universe. The spirit of the scent is intended to channel “the feeling of when the designer’s wedding dress appears on a catwalk.”
Takasago’s Francis Kurkdjian created the fragrance, with femininity, colors and brightness in mind. The upcoming potion will include notes of orange blossom, jasmines, patchouli and rose honey plus a cedar woody accord.
And perhaps the best part oft this project so far is the scent’s print ad campaign, starring model Anja Rubik and shot by Mert Atlas and Marcus Piggott. In a breathtaking Elie Saab design, Rubik against the urban backdrop succeeds in creating the extroardinary out of the ordinary, just what we want our next favorite scent to evoke. And in an industry that so often uses actresses of questionable accord to represent a designer fragrance (see: Kirsten Dunst for Bulgari, Leighton Meester for Vera Wang), it’s nice to see the show-stopping glamor of a true model paired with a truly luxurious scent.Elie Saab’s self-named fragrance will hit beauty counters in July.
